Over the years I've had the honor of working with a number of great people who have held many positions throughout the apparel industry. All of these different perspectives were extremely valuable to me because when I joined the VMI team I had no apparel experience. Some of the best advice I've received has been: “manage our customer's business as if it was your own, make sound, logical decisions, and feed the top stores”.
Besides the people I work with, I love the challenge of analyzing large datasets in a manner that's efficient and easily understood. I enjoy the freedom I have to create actionable reports that result in increased sales, or improved in stock percentage. I also love helping co-workers improve their processes.
PEI has a diverse welcoming culture built with many nationalities. This blend of nationalities brings together unique perspectives that are felt throughout our company and define our style. We are a large family that works together, plays together and are there for each other.
I have a wonderful family with 2 beautiful kids. Our household plays/watches a lot of soccer. I met my wife playing soccer. With 2 little soccer players, we have stretches where we are playing just about every night. If we are not playing soccer we like to go out on a boat fishing or just hanging out on the beach. I participate in Ragnars which are 12 person relay teams that run about 200 miles. So far, I have done Tennessee (Chattanooga to Nashville), Florida (Miami to Key West) and Hawaii (Hilo to Kona). The running was tough but the experiences with my friends and family were amazing.
I have been with PEI for 4 ½ years starting off at the Miami Headquarters and moving to New York 2 ½ years ago. I work with a great group of people here in NY who are down to earth and funny and make coming here fun and exciting. I have learned so much from everyone and continue to learn a lot, whether it’s about fashion trend, art inspiration, or even just great places to eat in the area, this team is charismatic and is never afraid to laugh out loud, and consistently creates amazing product for PEI.
I have progressed a lot in the past couple of years here. After recently getting a promotion, I am continuing to grow and strive to be a better and more knowledgeable designer. The best advice that I ever received was never take NO for an answer and always give more than 100% because it will eventually pay off. I believe we sometimes think our ideas and processes might not be worth it to someone else, but if it matters to you, you can only stay true to what you believe in and keep carrying on. Eventually someone will see that sparkle and that determination in you, and believe that you will make a huge creative and positive impact.
PEI is a great place to work. There will be ups and downs, and exciting moments. But you have the ability to grow and continue to master your field in whatever you do here.
My favorite aspects of working at PEI are my teammates and the company's rich history in design and innovation. The culture at PEI is engaging, results oriented and supportive.
I began as a Textile Designer creating prints for several swim brands in the Perry Ellis portfolio. As my career progressed I was promoted to Senior Textile Designer for the Nike Swim division of PEI. My love for textiles extends beyond print design. I am passionate about the transformative power of creativity and enjoy weaving and various art mediums outside of work.
In my time at PEI I’ve learned that the sum of my team is greater than an individual. I am grateful to work with a multi-talented group doing something I love.
When I first came to PEI, the Laundry brand had just started in L.A after being acquired by Perry Ellis International. The team was assembled and that is the beginning of my story. I joined as Director of Fabric R & D and I am now VP of fabric R & D.
We have a great group of intelligent, successful, dedicated, and creative people. The culture is reflective of hardworking, determined individuals that have only the best interests for our brand in mind. PEI employees have great attitudes, are pleasant and professional. We also try to have a little "fun" along the way which makes it a pleasure to come to work.
Outside of work I love to garden and I love interior design.
I started as National Sales Manager, then became Vice President and eventually more current role as Senior Vice President overseeing sales, merchandising, and design for the Fashion Swim division of the company.
I love the diversity of products, coworkers and the opportunity for advancement. Perry Ellis International offers products across genders and market categories including men’s, women's, golf, and active. Because the company offers a wide range of products for wholesale and has its own retail stores there is more opportunity for advancement than found in other companies. My coworkers are self motivated and create a positive work environment..
To be successful at PEI it takes adaptability. You must wear many hats and be ready for change. You are challenged to look at things differently and to develop creative solutions to problems. This is also what makes this company a great place to work and thrive if you love the ever changing face of the fashion industry.
I started in the Operations Department supporting two of our major department stores. I was promoted to work as a Sourcing Assistant and then promoted to handle all the bottoms Sourcing for all Miami brands in the Sportswear Division. I've always felt that the opportunities to grow in this company are available and endless.
I love our associates and everyone I've had the opportunity to work with throughout my 20 plus years at Perry Ellis. We have a great amount of talent in this organization and it has been a pleasure working alongside them on a daily basis.
The best advice I have received while working at Perry Ellis International is that a challenge can always be turned into an opportunity.
Outside of work I love going to the beach and new adventures. Most recently, I took a hot air balloon ride and rode a sky bike ride on a cruise ship, it was great!
My real passion, Charity, is part of what I love to do. Recently, Perry Ellis decided to participate in the BBBS (Big Brothers Big Sisters). I was one of the 11 mentors to participate in the piloting of this wonderful Corporate program. As a "Big Sister" it was my responsibility to act as a mentor and set positive example for a high school teen. The program has proved to be one of the most rewarding experiences I have had. I mentored the student in the at work program from her sophomore year to graduation. Then, while a senior, she went on to graduate and work in one of our retail stores. She is currently working with us as she pursues her college degree. I look forward to continuing my participation next year and welcoming a new "mentee".
I have been with Perry Ellis International for 6.5 years. I started as a Retail Planner and advanced to a Senior Planner. I am responsible for analyzing sales data for the OPG Wholesale major and ecommerce accounts assisting the team in driving sales. I manage sales, markdowns and stock to maintain profitability by account by store. I work with coordinator teams to ensure the stores have all of the information needed to maximize sales in stores.
This is a great place to learn and grow. I get to interact with different departments within my division and really see the full life of the product. The culture at PEI is one that encourages creativity and innovation to drive growth in a constantly changing retail environment.
Outside of work I love spending time with my daughter - taking road trips to various states to visit childrens museums, aquariums, zoos and beaches.
I started at PEI as a Graphic Design Manager for fashion swim brands. I learned so much in my first 6 months here about managing deadlines and supporting the design team. Over time I became involved with the Laundry by Shelli Segal team during their busiest months, this in turn gave me the opportunity to oversee the print and graphics responsibilities for this brand. I now oversee all of Fashion Swim Brands and Laundry by Shelli Segal and develop trend, color and print forecasts for both areas.
It is no secret that the fashion industry is a fast paced environment and it is no different here at PEI, you have to be willing to wear multiple hats and change course at a moment’s notice. It is a creative and collaborative workplace and the employees are passionate about the product.
The best advice I received during my career here: Does it ring the register?
Outside of work I enjoy spending as much time with my son and family as possible. I also enjoy being active as much as I can, running keeps my mind clear.
I was fortunate to start my career with PEI and be part of the sustainability initiatives we have taken at PEI to reduce our overall environmental impact. PEI has provided me with the guidance and opportunities for growth and development that has helped me in taking on new challenges. Overall, it has been a great learning experience.
If you work hard and put your mind to it one can accomplish great things. Our founder and Chairman of the Board, George Feldenkreis is an inspiration and a perfect example.
PEI not only has a diverse and supportive culture but is also a company that promotes social and environmental stewardship. It’s been a pleasure to be part of the PEI family and it is wonderful to be surrounded by creative and talented people.
Besides cooking and listening to music, I love spending time with my son. It’s like reliving your childhood and enjoying life through your child's eyes.
The thing I love most about PEI is the people. I work with a group of intelligent and inspiring men and women who make coming into work each morning exciting and fun. The culture at PEI is productive, team-oriented, and lively.
Since my start at PEI I have become responsible for much more, including training new-hire Product Coordinators, working closely with the Fabric team, organizing market week with the Merchandising team, and assisting designers with line sheets and technical packages.
Best career advice I’ve received is to always stay involved in all aspects of the industry and with all departments. This has helped me to not only work closely with and help other and all teams, but to also gain comprehensive knowledge that I wouldn’t learn otherwise.
Outside of work I spend my time drawing, painting, reading, going to museums, and trying out new restaurants/bars with friends.
I have been with Perry Ellis International since 2015. I love the business of licensing and at PEI, licensing is essential. While I specifically develop and manage the Perry Ellis brand, I also have great exposure to the vast brands under the PEI umbrella. This exposure has enabled me to have a more complete and well rounded view of the apparel industry across the globe. I work to build multiple product categories across multiple brands within diverse regions of the world. Everyday is an exciting new challenge and chapter.
At PEI it’s all hands on deck. Everyone works together for the overall benefit of the brands and the organization. While we may work on our individual brands in our individual departments, everyone operates with an open door policy. The team is willing and eager to help, lead and collaborate. Everyone is approachable.
PEI allows the individual growth of its employees, both personally and within their role. The more you devote and put into your work, the more you will grow and develop. With each new accomplishment comes a new learning experience and a new chance to prove yourself. As I push myself harder to succeed, PEI pushes me to help me grow.
I love to travel, both Domestically and Internationally. I love to see the world and the diverse people within the world. Exploring new regions of the world has helped me to approach licensing from a worldwide view. I am able to understand the unique distinct buying habits of different cultures and regions.
I have been with the company 39+ years. In 1977, I started as the front desk/receptionist/file clerk for essentially the same department that I now manage. I still have the same phone number that I did when I started! I moved into pattern grading and was quickly tested and promoted to a senior pattern grader level. I have worked on various categories, projects and pilot endeavors in my tenure. I can say that nothing has been more consistently challenging than swimwear product creation. Through the years, my supervisors have called upon me to take on increasing responsibility in managing staff and processes. I am now privileged to be a member of the Nike Swim product creation team in the Portland office. I oversee activities and workload of our multi-functional Technical Services team which includes pattern makers, technical designers and prototype/sample sewers.
PEI's diversity is quite remarkable; diversity of employees, culture, location and products. PEI is truly a global company. It is so interesting to me that each PEI location seems to have its own distinct culture. Having always worked in the Portland office, I can say that our office culture definitely reflects our city's culture. We are laid back but don't let that easy-going vibe fool you. Our team here is so creative and passionate. We are really driven to do the very best work possible.
I love sports although now I am resigned to mostly watching rather than playing. Baseball is my favorite. I enjoy spending time with my family (which includes my dog!) and meeting friends for breakfast. I love nature. I draw and paint nature subjects as time away from work allows. A beautiful sunrise makes my day!
